Mortal Kombat has had its fair share of reboots and projects since the 1993 film of the same name. After the very 90s Mortal Kombat, came a direct sequel named Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, in 1997. The latter also came to be known to have included one of the (best) worst lines in film history, when Kitana realized her dead mother Queen Sindel was actually not dead. There were a few animated versions, a weird show in 1998 called Mortal Kombat: Conquest featuring Shaolin monk Kung Lao and other familiar faces from the franchise. While director Kevin Tancharoen revived the idea of having a live-action Mortal Kombat film with his anthology web-series Mortal Kombat: Legacy, which ran for 2 seasons starting in 2011, it took 10 more years for an actual feature film to see the light of day.

The 2021 Mortal Kombat film is highly inspired from the first Mortal Kombat video game with Shang-Tsung being the main protagonist before Shao Khan was revealed to be the one true antagonist of the series in later installations of the game. While dark twisted plots and bloody fights have been the staple of Mortal Kombat for almost 30 years, what fans rejoice the most, and what makes the franchise stand apart from other video game series is their use of fatalities after each battle. So it’s no wonder the film strongly focuses on those gruesome victorious moments.

In today’s video I will rank the 10 best fatalities coming from the film, while discussing some that wish were included.

Which fatality would you have liked to see in the new Mortal Kombat film? Let me know in the comments below! Thanks for watching CBR!
